My battery appears to have gone belly up.  What experience do members have of the Hawker Odyssey?  Also, what price is it in the US?  (I'll be in Florida in July. I'm wondering if it might be worthwhile to buy a cheapo lead acid now and then the Hawker over the other side of the pond.)  Will it be possible to take it on the plane as hand luggage since it's sealed?

I would seriously doubt if you can take a battery on the plane. I do Tech service work, and I have a heck of a time checking in tools and equipment, and with the current chicken little attitude at the airport, I would be willing to bet you won't get it past the security screeners, especially since you are not a US citizen.

Lead acid batteries are considered hazardous material.
There are some exceptions..ie sealed batteries for electric wheelchairs...always in the cargo hold though!

I've got a Hawker battery which is superb. USA ebay sells them at around 60$ but they are about £80 at Motorworks which appear to be the cheapest I can find. At least if something goes wrong, I don't have to work out how to lob it across 3000 miles of ocean.

I have gone through the motions of getting an Odyssey battery while my wife was in California, where the prices are lower.
I called the airline (Lufthansa) and asked about the possibility of putting it in the hold luggage.
Explained that it is a completely sealed battery.
The person I spoke to at Luftansa assured me that in that case it is no problem to bring back.
Then my wife had much more interesting things to do while in California than going to Venice to pick up a stinky battery for me, so I don't know if the assurances of Luftansa would have been honored at the gate :-)

(now I started to get some ABS faults, so I will start looking again at the possibility of getting a Hawker battery. It seems that one can get it for about 80-90 Euros at a battery shop in Bergamo (Italy) or in Milano - I will try it out).

Ciao to all.
