Trevor,

Sorry to hear this news, I have not been active here very long but echoing the support of others I would be glad to offer financials if it helps, and regardless, thanks for what has been the best biking board I have used (just like the RS isthe best bike I have owned !)

Mike

I'd like to add that I have MySQL and PHP 4 running on my Windows server if that helps.  Is there a Windows version of Ikonboard?

Thanks, Trevor, for a fine experience and community. I hope that it can migrate to another server, and that we can continue. I'd throw in some bucks, too.

Trevor,

How much space do you need? My standard account allows me to run CGI scripts (once it is enabled) with a limit of 50MB of disk space. Sorry to sound so useless, but if you could have a look at http://www.force9.co.uk, there is a whole lot of information on their portal that may be able to give you enough information to determine whether or not the webspace is suitable. Me, I haven't the faintest idea! However, for what it's worth, they are currently running Perl 5.6.0 and provide PHP4. Sounds all very impressive to me...

Drop me a line if you think there's anything there that could be of use.

One other option may be MSN. I know its horrible, but it seems to be free. I access the http://www.ukmsnusers.com/cxglmcc site, and I believe that the service is provided for free. I don't know if it would be possible to migrate the site, but it may at the very least be possible to set up something similar to what's here?

If, after everything, it all goes t*ts up, then thank you very much for your effort in setting this up. Like many other people, this is the first thing I look at when I get a break at work(!) and it a source of both information and inspiration.

Regards,

Rich

In fact, I know it isn't pretty, but I've just set something up on MSN. Seems reasonably straightforward. I don't think it is as powerful as the Ikonboard stuff, but it seems to work. Just in case the plug is pulled on this board without warning, please have a look at http://groups.msn.com/BMWR1100andR1150RSriders/_messageboard.msnw and save it in your favourites. If the worst comes to the worst, I'll meet you there and we can regroup!

I know it all sounds sentimental, but stuff that, I need the support!

I have no idea if this is even possible .
But im a member of http://www.visordown.com its just a genral biker forum some 10000+ members , but also the guy running it also runs a supermoto forum http://www.supermotard.co.uk/ which is seprate to the main forum totally, but is rnning of the same webspace . Now unfourtantly the owner of the site (ben) is in hospital atm so it may not be immediatly possible to sort anything out , altho one of the senior admins there might be able to do summit , but with a bit of negoiating he may be willing to set up a rs forum on the side, maybe with a small donation because of the extra traffic

if u want me to ask the guy i will, he can only say no

oll

Trevor that's disatrous news. I would be happy to make a contribution as others have said, and help in any other way that's possible to keep the BBS going. It would be a major loss to lose it. Alas, I don't have access to any servers.

Thanks for all you've done to keep it running up to now.

I can host a phpBB on my site.  I've registered the domain name bmw-rs.com and would be happy to host this forum there.
Trevor, please let me know how much bandwidth and space the forum takes.
If anyone knows about how to import the Ikonboard history into a phpBB, please contact me.

Trevor, please count me in if you need a bit of financial assistance. This site is great, like talking to cousins all over the world that I never met.

Hello Trevor,

Sorry to hear this piece of news, many thanks for your excellent work here.  I use Yahoo Groups a lot, could that be an alternative?

Trevor,

Check out http://www.myikonboard.com/intro.php
You can set up the board on their system for free, or for $6 a month with more control.

What in the world!!   I go away for a couple of months and lo and behold if I would have waited two weeks, there would be nothing to come back to!

Trevor... this can't happen, so count me in for funds $$$ if that will help.  I know nothin' about servers and such, but I can sure open my wallet.  Besides I am not done rambling on and on about RS's.  Here at least I might have a prayer of someone listening!

Trevor,

This is really bad news, this is the first site I look at every day and has provided great information and support from like minded people arround the world. Sorry but I can't help with a server but if a contribution would help please let us know as the site and people should not be lost if at all possible.
The sport touring site could be a good home, but it always seems to be less easy to use because its bigger and has more bitching on it.
Whatever happens, thank you Trevor for the site and thank you to all the contributors who make it what it is

I have my own server on the end of my ADSL line.

I really don't mind hosting the site. If this isn't quick enough I could probably host the site where I work (an ISP).

They're all linux servers with apache/php/mysql/cgi. I have root access on all thee servers so I can easily add anything that's needed.

Trevor-

Horrible news.  Count me in for some $$$, too.  [I think Paypal would be a great method of funding support]

As many others have said - this is one of my most important websites.   Each day I wake up, grab a cup of coffee, log on, check out CNN (our local television news is pathetic), and then tromp over here to see what's going on with the R-RS crowd.  Truly this is a wonderful site.  I know nothing about web hosting, and servers, and the software need to support and host bulletin boards like this, but if there is anything I can do, please, let me know  what, when, where, and how!

Many thanks again for all of your tireless efforts in making this board what it is.  I'll be watching closely to see what happens.

Plenty of people here know of ways to keep this list alive.  Some of them are doing it, but it's not a focused effort because it'll be impossible to get a concensus about what we should do. I wish Trevor would give us some idea as to the server requirements.
I'm not about to sign onto a MSN-anything, sorry. Within a day or so, http://www.bmw-rs.com should point to my site.  For now, you can go to http://www.largiader.com/rs and it will launch a new phpBB that we can migrate to.
