Want to replace the wimpy horn on my '02 RS. Would like one horn and be able to mount the same way as the old and plug it right in. Any suggestions?
TIA
Barry

I also can recommend Rob Lentini's mod with twin Fiamms. They fit neatly under the left fairing panel and are loud enough to wake even the most brain dead Volvo driver.

Cost me around $25 (GBP 16) - great value.

I couldn't find the exact horns Rob describes in his write-up, so I settled for a single "dual-tone" Fiamm horn that I found in the local auto parts store.  It was the highest decibel rating they had, and it was a simple swap for the original.  Not as startlingly loud as the duals but so far quite satisfactory in getting other motorists' attention.  That is, when I can find the damn horn button at all - a guy cut me off on the way home from work last week and he got a very angry left-turn signal!

Ah yes, the misplaced horn button, after 2 years with the new switches I still can't find the damn thing when I need it.  I went with the Fiamm horn in the Aerostich catalog, bolts right in the stock location, just bend the mount arm a little to make sure the mouth is pointing down. You also have to cut off the stock connector and replace it with 2 1/4" spade receptacles.

I had a K 75 S for almost 8 years and in November I am the lucky owner of an R1100RS for three years.
So, after nearly 11 years and 145.000 km I simply cannot find the horn button when I need it.
Unbelievable for a producer who works very closely with german universities to assess optimal ergos.

You could fit a pair of horns from the R1150RT.
They are as loud as you would need and easy to mount.
As far as bike horns go, they are weapon.

For the ultimate in horns, mount the Hella Super Horns.  They are 118db and incredibly loud.  They are round like the stock horn but physically larger.  One will mount in the stock location and the other will go on the left side, just below the tank.  I make a mount that attaches to the side fairing bracket that comes off the front subframe.  It works really well for RS and RSL models.

If anyone is interested, email me off the list and can supply you with a photo of the left horn installation.

The good news about these horns is that they are made just like the original horn.  So unlike the snail type water intrusion is not a problem.  A horn set is about $70 and these things really rock!

Regarding the elusive horn button on the R1150rs and others, would it work to rotate the whole left side control assembly about 15 degrees clockwise around the left handlebar?  That would make the horn button accessible without doing acrobatics with your left thumb?  Of course it would make the clutch levera little awkward, but the clutch doesn't need the kind of go-to access that the horn button does.

Unfortunately rotating the controll assembly will also change the angle of the L mirror post and you may not be able to adjust it enough to still work.
I have found, like Eric, the angry L turn signal doesn't quite work .  Anyway, I find the horn doen't seem to have an effect on cagers (they're bigger) so I put my efforts into avoiding and being defensive.

I installed to disc type Fiamm horns, one in stock location and one on left side of bike under the tank, similar to what Bill probably did.  Decibel rating on the package was 130 db, the website of Fiamm says 112.  Anyway, they are definately louder than the stock one, they have an "import" car (to the USA) sound.  I used the stock wiring and relay and added the secondary wires for horn 2.
