The system that this board is hosted on has been hacked again, and the volunteer administrators are giving up the fight to keep the system up and running. This will happen with effect from May 31st, maybe sooner. So if we can't come up with a new hosting solution for this BBS beforehand, we are in trouble... My first idea is to approach the "BMW Sport Touring" guys... If someone can offer hosting for a CGI script application on a Unix/Apache server, that would be the easiest solution.

I have absolutely no idea what I could do to help. However, you have provided the best forum I've ever been part of. Let us know how we (the members) may help.

I'm in the same boat as Dave: unable to help, but extremely grateful to the service you've provided. The RT guys might have a home for you. They already have K1200 and GS splinter lists. The RS folk seem like a logical extension to me. David

I'm also at a loss as I don't have anyway to host it. I'd like to see it stay alive on its own if possible. I like bmw sport touring for what it is, but this is such a more comfortable forum, less flames and more useful information. - I'd hate to see it as just another message forum on the main page. That said I don't have a solution, but am willing to help out however I can.

Trevor, I´m sorry but I can´t help you either in an immediate way. I do hope that this thread can be continued as it is. If you need a financial contribution, please let us know. Thanks again, Rob

Trevor, You may add my voice and support to what will, no doubt, be a large number of members on this board. If a financial contribution would help establish our own board or system, count me in. This is a great site and needs to stay alive. Chris

Trevor, Add me the financial support list. I like the fact we have our "own" board, for all the same reasons mentioned before in past & present posts. (Edited by Robert Pressler at 1:03 am on May 22, 2004)

Hi Trevor, If a 'small' fee was asked for I would be more than happy if it helped keep the thing running. This site is a real pleasure for me and I would be lost without it s help. The very best of luck and I hope someone is able to come up with a decent solution. Cheers Ian 94RS Basingstoke

Trevor I would really miss this board. It has made my life enjoyable when wrestling with the slings and arrows of outrageous bmw ownership. If a financial contribution would help, count me in. I don't understand the hosting issues involved being able to use microsoft only barely. Ricky

The K1200LT and K1200RS sites got together a little over a year ago... Both groups are very different... The LT board is quite sedate and well mannered, while the RS guys are more on the fiesty side... The LT side of the site already has a Boxers forum, which has very light traffic... This particular community is so small that I think it would be a cinch to join up with them... I'm a "friend of the site" on the K1200RS forum, having been a member since 1999 when it too was an independent board... If you'd like me to contact my good friend Vic Salemme about this, I'd be happy to... I'm sure he'd dig having the R-RS and K-RS guys together, or rather under the same roof... Or, you can contact him yourself if you want... His e-mail is vic@i-bmw.com... Just tell him George Pepper referred you...

This link shows some of the UK webhosting options - I don't know if it is useful or not: http://www.webhostdir.com/spotlight/ukwebhosting.asp As with the others, if is a money matter, I am willing to help out in that respect.

Trevor, sorry... this site has been so great for most of us. As others, I would be grateful to donate, yet I know someone who MIGHT help - just sent you a message asking a few questions. And regardless of what happens, THANKS and best wishes, Juan Miguel Venturello ps. I post more on the BMWSportTouring forums than here, yet I like this 'place' a lot. More specific to my bike and the community is different, the people, etc. Not that the other site is bad but this is the board where I started my BMW (and my riding) experience! Ditto with the funding assistance, this is the 2nd site I access every day (1st is My Yahoo!...) and frankly the site I most enjoy reading. I wouldn't mind hooking up with the SportTouring/RT board though, since the bikes are so similar and a lot of us post on both. You've done a great job!

I'd like to see this site continue as a stand alone board if possible. I'd hate for it to become swallowed up in another larger board. If that becomes the only option, then it is better than losing it altogether. What are the possibilities of finding a host to move the board to, possibly with an updated format as was recently discussed. It sounds like if everyone who has offedred to antes up a modest sum, say $10 -20, we could pay for hosting. The transactions could be easily handled with Pay-Pal. I'd rather donate a few bucks than see a bunch of pop-ups or advertising on my screen to get free hosting, although that is another possibility. This is one of the better forumns that I read daily in spite of its older and more limited features and format. The people that come here are great. Lets do what we can to save our little community. Trevor, I can offer my personal server for this; however, it's not Linux/Apache, but shudder Win2k Server (which I hope to upgrade in a few months to Win 2003 Server). If this is of any help, contact me off list at darryl at crafty-fox dot com. Even if this isn't helpful, I too want to express my support and thanks for all the work you've done.

What about using Westlin Hosting who will install the latest Ikonboard package for free/fee (depending on site capacity), and might be able to load the existing MySQL datafile so that user information and prior postings are not lost. As a possible temproary alternate I can load a Linux system up at home but I'd need some time to do this (very busy week coming up). How many board members are there, BTW?
